The organ was designed by Ralph Downes who also designed the Royal Festival Hall organ.  It was built in 1963 and replaced the previous instrument of 1889, built by William Hill & Son.  It is currently in need of urgent repairs and cleaning which will cost in excess of £60,000 to complete. The Millennium Appeal is partly aimed at maintaining this instrument which, Downes himself admits to being on of the finest that came from their works.
