George Shillibeer, inventor
of the London Omnibus was a resident of Chigwell and is buried in St Mary's
Churchyard. His horse-drawn 'bus carried 22 passengers. It's
first journey was from Marylebone Road into the City of London on 4th July
1829. He also campaigned to have the nearby forested land kept open.
